Based on the true-life story of best-selling author Dr. Wayne Dyer, this film explores the transformational power of forgiveness. It’s about a man plagued by an uncontrollable temper that stems from being abandoned by his father as a child. Trying too hard to be the father he never had and tormented by feelings of inadequacy, his inner rage boils out of control, affecting his wife and son. With his career and marriage on the brink of collapse, he resolves to find the father he never knew, and make peace with the anger and resentment he has held inside. What he discovers on his quest is the power to turn his life around…the power of forgiveness.

Wayne says the story is based on his experience at his father’s grave in 1974. He says that in that moment, he got rid of the anger and rage against his father that he had carried around inside of him since childhood. He said essentially he could not go on with his life until he faced the huge burden of blame he carried. As Ram Dass once said to him, “Who is anybody to forgive anyone else?”

A Course in Miracles says, “If you didn’t blame, there would be nothing to forgive.” If we must forgive, we must first have blamed.

Forgiveness sets you free to move past the pain and on into a life of loving and serving. The satisfying and fulfilling life you know is there for you. My Greatest Teacher portrays the turnaround that comes when we stop nursing our wounds and look around to see who else may need the gifts of love and healing we were born to give.
